Tina Turner Gateshead Stadium 22nd July 1990

Tina Turner Gateshead Stadium 22nd July 1990
tinatixTina Turner had just released her seventh studio album “Foreign Affair” and went out on a massive stadium tour of Europe. The tour played to and amazing three million people, breaking the Stones’ record for attendances on a European tour. The tour was billed as a farewell tour (it wasn’t of course), and Tina Turner stated: “I’ve always thought this would be the final one but I must admit I now have mixed feelings. I’m the first woman to fill all these stadiums and the feeling from all those fans night after night was fantastic. I don’t want to close that door completely. I’m going away for about a year and when I’m ready to return, I just hope the fans will want whatever I have to offer.” The show came to Gateshead Stadiun for two nights and north east fans were treated to a high energy performance, and all those classic Tina Turner songs. TinaProgTina ran around the stage, danced, sang, screamed and gave 110% without taking a breath. The lady is amazing. I think support may have been Joe Cocker?

Joe Cocker supported Rod Stewart at Gateshead in 1991 (along with status Quo). Tina’s 1990 support acts were Michael MacDonald and the great Neville Brothers

Not sure? I saw Peter Straker in the 70s and he was fantastic. Did he support Tina at one point? Anyone know? Peter

its funny as I get older certain concerts seem to take on more relevance, and following TT’s sad passing, I feel privileged to have saw her in her pomp, and in 1990 she was at the top of her game, I was living in Felling at the time and so literally walked to Gateshead Stadium, when the 1st lady of rock is playing walking distance from your front door you don’t stay home, that would be foolish! To say she was a charismatic performer is an understatement, she was a force of nature, and she held the crowd in the palm of her hand; you were truly loved Tina, RIP

I agree 100% Trevor. She was fantastic and I also feel so lucky to have witnessed her in concert. Best wishes Peter

brother and I and a mate went on the Sunday and Tina sang her heart out as well as dancing like the clappers. We remember the generators coughing black smoke when she suddenly she reached full volume with her band
