Dear Laura,
I have hesitated to write to you up until now, knowing that there would have been much to preoccupy you at this time. I now hope that I can call a little on your generous and kind nature to accept of few words from me. In writing I do so not so much because I need you to hear my words, but because I need to say them.
I was a colleague of your father, being in the same department for over twenty years. The swirl of work day life leaves little space for quiet reflection, however, from the very start I instinctively understood Peter to be a thoroughly honourable and decent man.
Many have rightly spoken of his generosity of spirit and the help he gave others. All this stemmed from who he was, and such a person is rare indeed.
The strength Peter demonstrated following his accident is something that leaves me overwhelmed with astonishment. It’s very hard to see how a person could continue to be active and thrive after such an event- but Peter did just that. I am literally in awe. To describe this as inspirational is inadequate as I fear it would be beyond me -but I will try.
Time will pass. But for me like I suspect for many other there will be quiet moment when Peter will come into our thoughts. No one will know this but ourselves but be certain it will happen.
